Free SOLO show at the Grapevine this Thursday night!

Hey folks,

While I am busy getting ready for my next two French performances (NL Folk Fest and the Acadian National Congress in NB) , I managed to sneak in this free solo show for ya!

I’ll be playing some new stuff, some old stuff and a few covers.

I love playing at the Grapevine. It’s really laid back and it’s a nice place to grab a drink.

So, I hope to see you there!!

Cheers and hope you’re all enjoying the non-typical Newfoundland summer!

Song Makers at The Hall TONIGHT!

Song Makers at the Hall: A Songwriters in the Round Experience

Thursday, July 31 at 8 PM

LSPU Hall’s Cox & Palmer Second Space

with Colleen Power, Liz Solo, Neil Conway, Nick Ryan and Sam Burke

Songwriters won’t have to compete with the noisy din of the bar, as they get up-close-and-personal with their songs and the audience in this intimate setting.

The night will be hosted by award-winning singer/songwriter Colleen Power, who was recently featured in The Independent with her feisty new worker’s anthem, ‘Crossing the Line’ a song that takes aim at scab workers. She was chosen to represent Newfoundland and Labrador and will be singing in French at The World Acadian Congress to be held in August in Edmunston, New Brunswick.

Liz Solo’s musical career as vocalist, guitarist, drummer and composer/songwriter spans three decades. She is currently working on new band projects TrixXxie and The Sauce. All of her official releases are available for streaming and download on Bandcamp.

Neil Conway has recently returned from a tour across Canada in November 2013 followed by shows in Asia over the winter and Europe. Since its release, his latest recording “Songs For Topical Use” has been tearing up the charts on Canadian campus radio. This guys deserves a warm welcome at his first show back in town since last September!

Nick Ryan recently released the beautiful ‘Prose and Cons’ featuring Naomi Kavka. The Overcast says it’s one of the best local albums of 2014.

This will be Sam Burke’s first ever time playing at the LSPU Hall. Sam has been steadfastly hosting Epic Wednesdays on the deck for a while now and she will blow you away with her poignant lyrics and killer riffs. You will be hearing a lot more from Sam.

For tickets, call the Hall at 753-4531 or visit www.rca.nf.ca

Please note: This show is not suitable for children. Limited seating!

Welcome to Winter 2014: Writing,Recording and The Battle of The Bands

Hello from freezing, blustery, beautiful Newfoundland!

I had lots of great gigs this Winter. Recently, I performed at Erin’s Pub in the heart of Downtown St. John’s for the first time with Aneirin Thomas on bass and Curtis Andrews on drums. We were so happy to perform with Curtis this one time on his visit home for Christmas. We were joined by the amazing Sherry Ryan, who sang some old Irish Newfoundland favorites with me for an opening set.

I am looking forward to writing and recording this Winter, as the weather doesn’t make it that easy to be humping gear in, around and over snowbanks. I would rather stay home and create new things in my cozy backroom studio!

2014 promises a lot of new and exciting challenges and I am looking forward to greeting them all with a smile.

I am also honored to have been invited to be a judge for the Battle of the Bands at the Levee in Holdsworth Court, happening every Thursday, starting on January 16. 24 bands will compete for a number of excellent prizes which will make for an incredible opportunity for bands early in ther careers. So, come check out some great music, all through January and Februray at the Levee. Coincidentally, our next gig is on Valentine’s Day at the Levee as well!

Happy New Year, one and all!

XO Colleen
